Donut Sticks

My sister in law found these and they sounded quite complicated - however didn't actually take long to make and turned out delicious so I thought I'd share them on here!  The recipe itself didn't require any modification to make it dairy and soya free either!

I know they don't look like much but they taste delicious :).

Ingredients
400g water
2tbsp oil
130g self raising flour
130g plain flour
Pinch salt
20g granulated sugar
Vegetable oil (for deep frying)
Plenty of caster sugar, for rolling
Preparation
1) Bring the water and oil to the boil.
2) Meanwhile mix the flours, salt and 20g sugar in a heatproof bowl.
3) Pour the hot oil and water mixture into the mixture in the bowl.  Using a fork quickly mix the liquid in - you should have a stiff sticky dough, so don't mix too much.
4) Heat the vegetable oil to 170 degrees in a fryer or heavy-based saucepan.  Quickly roll the dough into longish sticks - place a few at a time into the fryer and fry for 3-5 minutes.  They will be slightly crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle.
5) Lift out of the oil (taking care as they'll be extremely hot) drain on kitchen roll and roll in caster sugar on a tray to coat in the caster sugar.
