Other names for dairy and soya in ingredients
 
One thing to be aware of is that although food manufacturers are required by law to put ingredients on the packaging there are a number of different names for dairy and soya which I have detailed below for you, as some are not immediately obvious:
 
Milk
  • Milk
  • Skimmed Milk powder (non-fat)
  • Low fat milk solids
  • Separated milk solids
  • Milk Solids
  • Yoghurt
  • Cheese
  • Margarine, Butter
  • Artificial cream
  • Buttermilk
  • Lactose (milk sugar)
  • Casein/caseinate (milk protein)
  • Whey
  • Sodium caseinate
  • Hydrolysed casein
  • Cream
  • Hydrolysed whey
Soya
  • Soya milk
  • Textured vegetable protein
  • Soya lecithin (E322)
  • Soya oil
  • Soya flour
  • Hydrolysed vegetable protein
  • Soya protein
  • Soya flavourings
Another thing to be aware of is that some 'low-cal' olive oil sprays actually contain soya and it is therefore necessary to check everything that you're using.

Some other E numbers which often contain soya are E426, E479 and E479b.
